Brown Hare

(Lepus europaeus)

This is a giclee print of my original pen, ink and watercolour illustration of the Brown Hare.

Brown or European Hares are thought to have been imported from the european mainland to the UK by the Romans, or perhaps even earlier during the Iron age. They are also known as ‘Mad March Hares’ due to their elaborate springtime courtship rituals where the females stand on their hind legs and box males who attempt to mate with them.
Brown hares feature heavily in folklore. Examples range from being bad omens, associations to alleged witchcraft to mystical, cunning in pagan lore, and featuring often in church architecure.
The Brown Hare’s mystique is likely because they are mainly silent, and, being that they are the fastest land animal in the UK, are rarely seen.

Professionally printed onto 100% recycled white 300gsm paper, this print is available in two sizes: Small (A4) or Large (A3); unframed, or framed. Please allow up to 10 days delivery time for framed prints.
All Fur Feathers and Tails cards and prints are 100% recycled, are packaged in 100% compostable corn starch bags and recycled/ recyclable packaging. Printed in the UK.
